Ground breaking for the Linden Little River Park took place Friday.
LINDEN, N.C. (WNCN) – It was a long time coming, but many Cumberland County residents are glad it’s finally here.
Ground breaking for the Linden Little River Park took place Friday. The new 38-acre park is located at the corner of Loop Road and Collier’s Chapel Church Road in Linden.
County officials said it’s the town’s first park.
The first phase of the park includes a walking trail, playground and multi-purpose field.
“I grew up here and we never had a park but we always wanted to go to the park” said Margie Whitehead, Linden community coordinator.
Whitehead said the closest parks were at least a dozen miles away.
The project cost an estimated $424,000. It was paid for by a grant from North Carolina’s parks and recreation trust fund and by Cumberland County.
The park is expected to open by Christmas.
